religiously neutral I, 40

Dooyeweerd uses ‘neutrality’ in two senses, which he relates to each other (I, vi):

1. Temporal reality is not neutral with respect to its religious root. It does not exist in itself, but has its existence only in this temporal root.

2. Theoretical thought is not neutral with respect to our religious choice of position. All of our theoretical thought has a religious foundation. But this must not be understood as the dependence on some merely theological propositions. Theology is also a theoretical science, and depends on the religious choice of position.
